Visiting Denham by air

There is no overhead join at Denham because of the London CTR. You will be required to report at one of the two Visual Reporting Points (VRPs) at 1000' QNH.

Joining from the north

Bovingdon disused aerodrome

This is a view of Bovingdon disused aerodrome looking east. Hemel Hempstead is visible beyond. If you have not visited Denham before you might find it helpful to come via Bovingdon VOR and then set heading for the relevant VRP, either VRP Maple Cross to join for runway 24 or VRP St Giles to join for runway 06. Keep a good lookout - overhead the VOR can get busy.

St Giles VRP

This photo looks south towards VRP St Giles. The VRP is the crossroads on the A413 in the valley between the two halves of the town of Chalfont St Giles. The A413 is visible in the foreground snaking towards St Giles in the mid-ground. Also visible beyond St Giles is Chalfont St Peter (east of A413). The co-ordinates of VRP St Giles are 513802N 0003401W. The fix from Bovingdon is 189°/6nm.

Keep a good lookout for other aircraft joining, and be prepared to fit in with aircraft in the circuit. Remember joining aircraft must give way to aircraft in the circuit.

Maple Cross

This photo looks roughly south east. The M25 is in the foreground. VRP Maple Cross is the roundabout at the far end (southern end) of the slip road. The fix from Bovingdon is 166°/6nm. The co-ordinates are 513746N 0003015W. The lakes beyond to the south (to the right of the picture) are a useful feature.

Keep a good lookout for other aircraft joining and be prepared to fit in with aircraft in the circuit. Remember joining aircraft must give way to aircraft in the circuit.

Final Runway 24

This photo was taken from an aircraft high and to one side of final for 24. The displaced threshold is due to the road adjacent to the aerodrome boundary.
